GLOSSARY
NORCOCLAURINE HYDROCHLORIDE (HIGENAMINE)

Norcoclaurine Hydrochloride (Higenamine)

How does it work?

Norcoclaurine hydrochloride, or more commonly know as nigenamine, is a constituent found in a variety of plants including aconite, Annona squamosa, Nandina domestica (sacred bamboo) and others.1 It has shown to have anti-asthmatic acitvity through bronchial tube dilation, also known as beta(2)adrenergic agonism.2 This activity is the same as ephedrine, found in the plant Ephedra, which has fat burning properties, which led Higenamine to be used therapeutically as a fat burning ingredient however there are no human trials to confirm this as yet.3 Some studies have shown higenamine to act as a stimulant and simultaneously cause some tissues to relax, hence its use in asthma, cough and erectile dysfunction.4

What results can be expected?

Higenamine may stimulate fat burning activity which may assist weight loss and obesity.5 Higenamine may also act as an adjunct treatment to asthma, unproductive coughs and erectile dysfunction, however more research is needed to confirm these claims.6
