Medium Chain Triglycerides

 

How does it work?

Medium chain triglycerides (MCT) are saturated fatty acids found in milk, butter, coconut and palm oil and is a collective term for butyric, caproic, caprylic, capric, lauric, myristic, palmitic and stearic acids.1 Each fatty acid exerts different functions however one of the most researched MCT is lauric acid in coconut oil which has shown to have antimicrobial activity2 as well as assist in weight reduction and helps reduce abdominal obesity.3 MCT have also shown to be easily digested; are converted into energy rather than being stored as fat tissue; and may stimulate metabolism.4

What results can be expected?

Medium chain triglycerides in the form of coconut oil may aid in weight loss and reduce abdominal obesity,5 through stimulating metabolism and providing a source of cellular energy instead of fat storage.6 MCT may also support antimicrobial activity in the body, helping to reduce infections.7
