GLOSSARY
FENUGREEK (TRIGONELLA FOENUM-GRAECUM)

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum)

How does it work?

Fenugreek seeds and leaves are used in food and as traditional medicine.1 Research has shown fenugreek to be hypoglycaemic, hypocholesterolaemic and anti-inflammatory.2 This is due to containing high amounts of fibre and steroidal saponins which are able to assist in lowering cholesterol and blood sugar levels through interacting with bile salts in the digestive tract and reducing intestinal absorption of glucose, respectively.3

What results can be expected?

Fenugreek may assist blood sugar regulation in those with type II diabetes, insulin resistance or hyperglycaemia.According to research, higher doses of fenugreek may also assist in lowering total and LDL cholesterol.5 There is also some research using fenugreek to improve male libido, energy and well-being.6
