GLOSSARY
COCONUT OIL

Coconut Oil

How does it work?

Coconut oil comes from the fruit of the coconut palm.1 It contains high amounts of saturated fats known as medium chain triglycerides(MCT) which have shown benefits on lipid profiles.2 The MCTs in coconut oil include lauric, capryllic, capric, myristic and palmitic fatty acids which are metabolised in the liver into energy and not involved in the biosynthesis and transport of cholesterol.3 Studies have shown coconut oil to increase the HDL: LDL cholesterol ratio as well as reduce waist circumference in those following a balanced diet and exercise.4

What results can be expected?

Coconut oil may assist in positively influencing cholesterol ratios as well as improving fat metabolism and reducing waist circumference, therefore aiding in weight loss.5
