Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea)

 

How does it work?

Green tea contains polyphenol constituents attributed to its high antioxidant, astringent, anti-inflammatory, antitumour and cancer preventative activity.1 Black, green and oolong tea all come from the camellia sinensis plant however due to the absence of fermentation, green tea leaves contain higher polyphenol content hence stronger therapeutic effects compared to black tea.2 Green tea has also shown some level of  thermogenic (fat burning) activity which seems to be due to the interaction of polyphenols and low caffeine content.3

What results can be expected?

Green tea provides antioxidant activity to counteract oxidative stress and damage to cells in the body.4 It may also help to prevent certain cancers and provide cardiovascular protection in those with or at risk of cardiovascular disease.Green tea used as an adjunct to weight loss programs may assist in weight loss and fat burning.6
