Bacopa Monniera (Brahmi)
How does it work?
Brahmi is an indian herb used in western and ayurvedic herbal medicine for its positive effects on brain health such as improving cognitive function, learning, memory and intelligence.1 The active constituents show neuroprotective, nootropic, antioxidant, anxiolytic, anti-inflammatory and adaptogenic effects through many biochemical processes including the cholinergic system of the brain.2 It is important to not confuse it for another herb named Gotu cola (Centella asiatica) which can sometimes be mistakenly called Brahmi.
What results can be expected?
Brahmi can help improve memory recall, heighten learning capacity, reduce anxiety and improve stress response.3 Studies have also shown Brahmi to assist in treating Alzheimer’s disease, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and irritable bowel syndrome.4
